Coffee Washing Stations

At Coffee Business Center (CBC), we take pride in producing exceptional fully washed Rwandan coffee through a process that prioritizes quality, precision, and sustainability at every step. From the moment cherries are delivered to our stations, our focus is on preserving the unique characteristics of each region’s terroir.

Our Fully Washed Process

  1. 1
    Cherry Selection

Only the ripest red cherries are accepted at our washing stations. Upon delivery, each lot is carefully hand-sorted and floated in water to remove underripe or defective cherries, ensuring that only the best reach the pulping stage.

  2. 2
    Pulping & Fermentation

The selected cherries are mechanically pulped to remove the outer skin and fruit, after which the beans are fermented in clean water for about 18 hours. This controlled fermentation helps break down the mucilage naturally, developing clarity and depth in the cup profile.

  3. 3
    Washing & Grading

After fermentation, the coffee is thoroughly washed in channels, where it’s graded by density — heavier, high-quality beans sink while lighter ones are separated. This step ensures consistency and excellence in every lot we produce.

  4. 4
    Drying

The washed parchment coffee is spread on raised African drying beds under the sun, where it is regularly turned and covered during rain or intense heat. Depending on weather conditions, drying takes 10–14 days, allowing the beans to reach the ideal moisture level of 12%.

  5. 5
    Storage & Milling

Once fully dried, parchment coffee is stored in well-ventilated warehouses before being transported to our dry mill for hulling, grading, and bagging. Each lot is tracked to maintain full traceability from farmer to export.

  6. 6
    Quality Control

Throughout the process, our quality control team conducts regular checks and cup tests in our lab to guarantee that every lot meets CBC’s high standards and preserves the signature profiles of Rwandan specialty coffee.

Our Commitment

Across all CBC washing stations, this process is guided by ethical sourcing, environmental care, and farmer partnership — ensuring that every cup of CBC coffee tells a story of craftsmanship, sustainability, and pride in Rwandan origin.
